Instructure is seeking a Senior Product Designer to own end-to-end design for features within its assessment platform, which serves millions of educators and learners across K-12, higher education, and career segments. The platform is unifying multiple legacy products onto a modern foundation, and this role shapes how that transition happens from a design perspective.
You will be the design voice for your features within a product trio, working from initial exploration through shipping. This is a hands-on individual contributor role with high autonomy—leadership sets outcomes, and you determine how to achieve them while communicating your direction proactively.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning end-to-end design for assessment features (creating, delivering, grading assessments, and reading results), producing mobile-first solutions that meet accessibility standards and scale for future needs
- Conducting independent user research with educators and learners, running your own studies and partnering with UX Research to translate findings into design decisions
- Exploring diverse design directions and building functional prototypes with AI to test with users before committing to solutions
- Designing for institutional customers with rigid adoption cycles, thoughtfully redesigning workflows that schools and universities depend on
- Tracing how design decisions affect related platform areas and resolving knock-on effects early
- Partnering with Product and Engineering to ship iteratively, gaining alignment through design reviews and critique
- Defining success metrics with your Product partner and tracking usage, sentiment, and experiment results to demonstrate impact
You'll work hybrid on a distributed team, with occasional days in the Budapest office.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Five or more years of product design experience shipping SaaS products, with a portfolio demonstrating end-to-end UX and UI work
- Track record of taking ambiguous problems to validated solutions with minimal guidance
- Craft across interaction and visual design, with an eye for how each feature fits the broader experience
- Build-to-learn approach to design, using functional prototypes to answer questions early
- Experimentation mindset: ability to explore diverse directions, judge the right test, and report inconclusive results candidly
- Hands-on research experience across qualitative and quantitative methods, with clear judgment on evidence strength
- AI-first approach to product design, deciding task by task whether AI fits and owning what it produces
- Communication that ties design rationale to intended outcomes and keeps product decisions anchored in user needs
- Fluency in English
PREFERRED:
- EdTech, assessment, or learning platform experience
- Experience redesigning established workflows for users who cannot absorb disruption
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG)
- Background working across distributed teams and time zones
