Radiant is building the world's first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company's flagship product, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor designed for rapid deployment to hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. It can run for up to 5 years without refueling and replaces diesel generators with portable nuclear power.
You will lead Radiant's nuclear design and analysis group, managing an interdisciplinary team of nuclear engineers across core physics, shielding, instrumentation & controls, and reactor operations. You own the schedule, budget, hiring, and execution of nuclear-related milestones with focus on safety, reliability, portability, and performance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing a team of nuclear engineers in safety analyses, core performance, shielding (operational dose, activation, shutdown dose), I&C, operations, and thermal-hydraulics
- Hiring, leading, and growing a high-performing nuclear engineering team
- Owning nuclear engineering projects end-to-end: requirement capture, multi-disciplinary design iteration, simulation pipeline development, analysis post-processing, and regulatory deliverables
- Collaborating with the regulatory team on nuclear industry standards and requirements
- Mentoring engineers through actionable feedback and coaching
You will work in an interdisciplinary environment, cross-functionally with engineers and leadership. The ideal candidate is fluent in engineering first principles, has strong creative problem-solving abilities, and is passionate about mentoring engineers. Radiant is on track to test its first reactor at Idaho National Laboratory this summer, with initial customer deliveries beginning in 2028.
Required: Bachelor's in nuclear engineering, 5+ years nuclear engineering industry experience with MCNP and/or OpenMC, deep knowledge of neutron transport and Monte Carlo simulation theory, and 1+ year managing direct reports. Desired: Master's or PhD in nuclear engineering and subject matter expertise in safety analysis, shielding, I&C, reactor operations, or radioactive material transportation. Must work 100% onsite at El Segundo HQ.
