Halter is a mission-driven agtech company transforming sustainable grazing practices using IoT-enabled collars and wireless networks. The Network team owns the wireless backbone connecting every collar to the Halter platform, processing half a billion messages daily between backend systems and field devices.
As Senior Network Engineer, you'll take ownership of the performance, reliability, and scalability of Halter's collar and tower network infrastructure. This is a hands-on technical role where you'll be the go-to expert for complex wireless and infrastructure challenges, making critical architectural decisions as the company scales across new farms, regions, and terrain.
Key responsibilities include:
- Operate and optimize Halter's collar and tower network, ensuring robust performance and minimal downtime
- Design and evolve network architecture focusing on wireless protocols (LoRa), tower infrastructure, edge-to-cloud data flow, and real-time telemetry
- Drive continuous improvement through monitoring, data analysis, and field feedback; proactively identify coverage gaps and latency issues
- Lead tower deployment strategy including site selection, configuration, and automation for scalable rollout
- Partner with firmware, backend, and product teams to ensure seamless end-to-end data flow
- Mentor fellow engineers in wireless networking, telemetry scaling, and high-availability systems
- Implement observability and diagnostics tools to help teams debug communication issues across varied terrain
- Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation supporting incident resolution
- Help set technical vision and direction for the network discipline
- Stay current with evolving wireless technologies, mesh architecture, and rural connectivity solutions
You'll bring deep experience designing and operating large-scale wireless networks (LPWAN/LoRa, cellular, or similar protocols), a proven track record owning network architecture end-to-end in production at scale, and comfort working across the full stack from RF/antenna behavior through cloud systems. Experience with observability for distributed/IoT systems and a track record growing other engineers are essential.
