Relativity Space is building rockets to serve today's needs and tomorrow's breakthroughs. The Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting growing demand for launch capacity. The Launch Mechanical team is responsible for designing, building, testing, and integrating complex mechanical systems that interface directly with the launch vehicle and ground support infrastructure.
In this role, you will manage a small, highly talented team of launch mechanical engineers responsible for designing mechanisms and tools that interface with the flight vehicle and other ground systems. You'll balance leadership responsibilities with individual technical projects, directly impacting the outcome of launch system designs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing and mentoring a team of launch mechanical engineers
- Mentoring engineers on fundamental and practical engineering practices
- Balancing leadership work with individual technical projects
- Growing the team through recruiting, interviewing, developing training materials, direct mentorship, and performance reviews
- Communicating with leadership about progress, risks, and team details
- Designing mechanisms and tools involving static structures, dynamic mechanisms, and control systems using fluid, electrical, and combustion powered sources

Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field
- Minimum 3 years of engineering experience in a test or launch environment
- Strong engineering fundamentals in structures, mechanical design, and fluid systems
- Experience managing or leading technical teams preferred
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineers
