Salary: USD 138,200 - 190,100 / annual
Archer is an aerospace company building all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for sustainable air mobility. The Special Programs team is a rapid-prototyping, cross-functional engineering group supporting advanced and defense-focused development efforts.
In this role, you will lead flight controls and software engineering for prototype vehicles. Your core responsibilities include designing and analyzing flight control laws, developing embedded flight control and autopilot software, and supporting rapid prototyping from concept through flight test. You will own the flight controls and software discipline within Special Programs, setting technical standards and methods. You'll conduct feasibility assessments of new opportunities, evaluate emerging concepts and RFPs, and determine viable technical approaches.
You will serve as a cross-functional technical contributor across Special Programs efforts, collaborating with program leads and broader Archer engineering teams. You'll produce technical documentation, trade studies, and analysis packages supporting design reviews and capture decisions. You may represent Special Programs work in internal reviews and discussions with government stakeholders.
This role emphasizes significant technical ownership and autonomy. You'll work independently without direct reports, operating as a generalist when needed to support program requirements. The position requires deep expertise in flight control law development, flight dynamics, stability and control analysis, and embedded flight control/autopilot software development. You should be comfortable evaluating technical feasibility of early-stage concepts and working across the full development lifecycle in fast-paced, resource-constrained environments.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Controls, Electrical, or Computer Engineering (advanced degree preferred); 8–12 years of relevant engineering experience; demonstrated experience in flight control law development and embedded flight control software; familiarity with control design, simulation, and embedded software development tools; ability to work independently with significant technical ownership; U.S. Person status (ITAR/EAR compliance); ability to obtain and maintain U.S. government security clearance.
