Halter is a climate-tech company enabling farmers and graziers to run productive and sustainable operations through innovative grazing management technology. The company is backed by tier-1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, and DCVC. As a Lead Engineer on the Platform team, you'll own the technical direction and execution of the infrastructure that powers Halter's global operations. You'll work at the intersection of developer experience, cloud infrastructure, security, and AI-assisted engineering, directly multiplying the impact of engineering teams across backend, embedded, ML, and data. Key responsibilities include: - Driving adoption and evolution of internal AI tooling across the organization, from automated CI-failure triage to PR review bots and build notifications. - Building golden paths and paved roads that make safe, fast shipping the default for all engineers. - Setting technical direction for AWS cloud infrastructure as Halter scales globally, balancing velocity, cost, reliability, and operational simplicity. - Embedding security into the platform through guardrails and sensible defaults across IAM, network policy, secrets management, and supply chain. - Maintaining reliability of core compute and orchestration layers that farmers and ranchers depend on daily. - Advancing observability and incident tooling, treating on-call as a signal rather than a cost. - Automating infrastructure management through Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD pipelines, and internal tooling. - Leading cross-functional architecture discussions and defining platform practices and standards. - Mentoring and growing other engineers through design conversations and code reviews. - Participating in on-call rotation with a skilled team. You bring deep experience building and operating AWS at scale, strong fluency in container orchestration, cloud networking, and Infrastructure-as-Code. You've led platform or infrastructure work in high-growth environments and are comfortable setting direction across multiple teams. Backend product development experience is valuable. You understand developer experience deeply and have built internal platforms that engineers prefer to custom solutions. You treat security as a first-class concern in platform engineering.
