HiddenLayer is seeking a hands-on Lead Engineer to own the technical direction and execution of their AI Attack Simulation product. You will lead the architecture and development of systems that translate adversarial AI research and real-world attack techniques into safe, repeatable, and measurable security testing capabilities.
In this role, you will partner closely with Product Management and Security Research to shape product strategy, understand customer problems, evaluate opportunities, and define team outcomes. You are expected to be product-minded—going beyond receiving requirements to help determine what to build, why it matters, and how to measure success.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning technical direction, architecture, and execution of the AI Attack Simulation product
- Designing and building agentic workflows, tool integrations, execution systems, guardrails, and evaluation frameworks
- Establishing an AI-first product development workflow across discovery, research, solution design, prototyping, implementation, validation, and continuous improvement
- Ensuring engineers understand customer problems and take ownership beyond ticket execution
- Remaining hands-on with critical architecture, prototyping, and complex technical problem-solving
- Mentoring engineers, leading technical reviews, supporting hiring, and raising standards for reliability, security, observability, and product quality
You bring 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including technical leadership of complex production systems. You have strong backend, distributed-systems, and cloud-native engineering expertise. You've demonstrated experience building AI-first product workflows and leading teams toward direct ownership of customer problems and measurable outcomes. Production experience with AI or agentic systems (tool use, orchestration, structured outputs, state management, guardrails, evaluation) is essential.
Cybersecurity product experience or closely related background in offensive security, attack simulation, AI security, red teaming, or penetration testing is required. You are proficient in Go and have production experience with Python, Rust, Java, or TypeScript. You have strong product judgment, can partner effectively with Product Management, and demonstrate the ability to mentor engineers and lead through ambiguity.
Preferred qualifications include experience with AI red teaming, adversarial machine learning, AI security evaluation, breach and attack simulation products, MITRE ATT&CK/ATLAS frameworks, agent orchestration technologies (OpenAI Agents SDK, LangGraph, AutoGen), and building evaluation datasets and regression frameworks for AI systems.
