Salary: USD 140,000 - 160,000 / annual
Voyager Technologies is seeking a Lead Electrical Hardware Engineer – Avionics to manage the Avionics team responsible for designing, manufacturing, and testing in-house avionics hardware across all company product lines. This is a hybrid role based in Pittsburgh, PA, reporting to the Electronic Systems Manager within Voyager Lunar Systems.
Key responsibilities include leading the development of flight hardware avionics systems (computing, signal conditioning, control electronics, filtering, data acquisition, and command & data handling); managing daily operations, scheduling, and tasking for the avionics team; providing technical and programmatic guidance to internal team members, subcontractors, consultants, and partner personnel; establishing review processes for avionics engineering products prior to release and manufacturing; serving as an independent reviewer for subsystem and vehicle phase-gate design reviews; defining internal work processes and standards for hardware design, circuit analysis, test execution, and documentation; driving rapid troubleshooting and failure investigation during component testing, vehicle assembly, and environmental testing; and contributing to avionics product roadmap and R&D prioritization.
Minimum qualifications include 6+ years of experience in electronics hardware development, component/LRU electrical design, a B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or equivalent), proficiency with schematic and board design software (Altium, Eagle, OrCAD, or similar), and the ability to mentor and lead small teams of engineers on complex products.
Preferred qualifications include experience developing spacecraft electronics systems for Class D unmanned spacecraft, high-speed digital PCB design, VITA VPX or SpaceVPX standards implementation, project management tools (Microsoft Project/JIRA), range safety and ground safety electronics compliance, mechanical CAD tools, FPGA/microcontroller programming, NASA standards knowledge (NASA-STD 4001/4003), space environmental testing experience, MIL-STD 461 testing, and an M.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
