xAI is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to join its facilities engineering team in Memphis, Tennessee. In this role, you will lead a team of electrical engineers designing, building, and maintaining power systems for some of the world's most technically advanced facilities and data centers. You will have autonomy to solve complex problems, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment alongside MEP engineers, trade partners, and internal stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading a team of electrical engineers on detailed electrical design and specifications for power distribution systems, switchgear, motor control centers, lighting, UPS units, standby/emergency generators, automatic transfer switches, power monitoring systems, data/phone distribution, grounding systems, fire alarm systems, and lightning protection.
- Providing electrical engineering support to facility technicians for troubleshooting existing equipment and controllers.
- Conducting load flow analysis, electrical equipment evaluation, grounding assessments, and power monitoring for facility systems.
- Ensuring equipment interfaces properly with mechanical and electrical systems and facility power budgets.
- Coordinating electrical installations and maintenance with local utilities.
- Ensuring all designs and installations conform to applicable codes (NFPA 70E, NFPA 70 NEC, NFPA 497, NFPA 101, AFSPCMAN 91-710, IBC).
Basic qualifications: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related discipline; 3+ years of professional experience with electrical projects, power distribution systems, switchgear, UPS systems, and/or generators.
Preferred qualifications: 3+ years of management experience; 5+ years in a similar role; Professional Engineering (PE) license; ability to read power/control schematics and technical O&M manuals; experience with VFDs, industrial pumps, MODBUS controls, medium voltage distribution, control panel design, power coordination, and arc flash analysis; strong self-motivation and organizational skills.
