Step is a fintech company on a mission to improve the financial future of the next generation, now backed by Beast Industries (MrBeast's company). The company offers banking and borrowing products used by millions, and is scaling financial literacy and tools at massive scale. You'll join as a Design Systems Engineer, sitting at the intersection of design and engineering. This role owns the systems, tooling, and infrastructure that enable product teams to build beautiful, consistent, high-quality products at speed. You'll work across Figma, code, and AI-powered workflows to ensure the design system lives equally in design and production. Key responsibilities include: - Owning the connection between design system and production code, ensuring they evolve together - Building and maintaining reusable components, design tokens, and shared foundations across iOS, Android, and Web - Partnering with Product Designers to translate high-fidelity designs into production-quality components - Collaborating with Engineering to create scalable, flexible, performant, and accessible component architecture - Continuously improving the design-to-code workflow through tooling, automation, documentation, and developer experience - Developing systems that allow designers and engineers to move faster while maintaining high quality and consistency - Improving governance around component APIs, tokens, naming conventions, versioning, and adoption - Reviewing implementations and raising overall product quality - Exploring and building AI-powered workflows for design, building, documentation, and maintenance - Shaping the future of product development at Step You bring significant experience building and evolving design systems for modern consumer software, strong frontend engineering skills with reusable component libraries, deep understanding of design tokens and component architecture, and expertise with Figma. You're a systems thinker who looks beyond individual components to improve entire workflows, have an exceptional eye for visual detail, and communicate equally well with designers and engineers. You've shipped high-quality mobile or web applications and can demonstrate both technical execution and thoughtful design systems thinking. Bonus experience includes React Native, token pipelines, Storybook, Figma plugins, or using AI to improve design workflows. Reports to Head of Design. Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
