Beacon AI is building an AI platform to enhance flight safety, efficiency, and capability for aviation. The company is backed by top investors, holds a dozen Department of Defense contracts, and partners with major airlines to deliver mission-critical systems.
As a Backend Software Engineer, you will design, build, and scale backend systems powering the flight safety platform. You'll take ownership of backend services, APIs, and data pipelines while balancing hands-on development with technical leadership. Working closely with product and cross-functional teams, you'll deliver reliable, secure, and scalable systems for mission-critical, real-world aviation applications.
Key responsibilities include architecting and maintaining backend services and distributed systems; designing and implementing secure, scalable APIs for internal and external integrations with real-time data streaming support; building and optimizing data pipelines for time-series and multimedia data ingestion and processing; owning backend system reliability, performance, and scalability in production; leading technical design discussions and code reviews; troubleshooting complex backend and cloud infrastructure issues; and driving backend features from concept through delivery.
You should have 5+ years designing and implementing backend services, APIs, and distributed systems in production. Fluency in modern backend languages like Python and JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js) is required. You'll need proven experience building, scaling, and operating backend infrastructure, a strong ownership mindset, and the ability to operate effectively in evolving environments while maintaining high quality and reliability standards. Experience with data pipelines and backend systems handling large-scale or real-time data is essential.
Bonus qualifications include passion for aviation, familiarity with machine learning workflows or data-intensive systems, experience with big data tools or large-scale data processing frameworks, and background in DevOps or DevSecOps.
