Future is building a personalized health guidance system that combines AI, human expertise, and personal health data to help members understand what to do next for their body and goals, then supports sustained behavior change.
You'll lead Android engineering across Future's phone and Wear OS apps, setting technical direction and building the experiences members use daily. This is a hands-on role where you'll move between product details and system architecture, write production code, guide technical decisions, and help other engineers do their best work.
Key responsibilities include:
**Member Experience & Architecture:** Lead Android implementation for core journeys (onboarding, coach messaging, scheduling, guided workouts, progress tracking, health-data integration, video calls). Build polished, accessible interfaces with Jetpack Compose and Future's design system. Set direction for a multi-module Kotlin codebase built around Compose, coroutines, flows, dependency injection, and unidirectional state. Improve module boundaries, data ownership, navigation, and offline behavior as the product scales.
**Connected Health & Wearables:** Guide systems connecting Future with Wear OS, Health Connect, heart-rate data, sensors, and Android device lifecycle. Protect member data and design for intermittent connectivity.
**Reliability & Performance:** Own app startup, responsiveness, media playback, foreground services, background work, real-time calls, and data synchronization. Use crash, performance, and release telemetry to identify issues proactively.
**Engineering Excellence:** Set expectations for code quality, testing, observability, and maintainability. Strengthen unit, integration, UI, and end-to-end coverage with JUnit, Robolectric, Espresso, and Appium.
**Delivery & Release Quality:** Improve Gradle builds, GitHub Actions, Fastlane automation, and Google Play delivery. Help the team ship frequently without sacrificing stability.
**Team Leadership:** Lead the Android team through technical planning, project execution, design discussions, pairing, and code review. Keep engineers aligned on priorities, decisions, and delivery risks.
**AI-Assisted Development:** Use coding agents and AI tools to accelerate exploration, implementation, testing, and review. Apply engineering judgment to validate output before it reaches members.
You bring 8+ years of professional Android engineering experience, including ownership of complex consumer applications. You have deep Kotlin knowledge and strong command of Jetpack Compose, coroutines, Flows, dependency injection, and Android lifecycle behavior. You've led architecture work in large or modular Android codebases and shipped applications through Google Play. You understand performance, offline state, background execution, media playback, permissions, and device fragmentation. You have strong testing habits across all layers and can debug across UI, networking, persistence, services, devices, and CI. You've led complex projects from planning through launch, partnering with product and design while managing scope, dependencies, risks, and delivery. You operate at lead scope and use AI coding tools in your workflow while knowing how to verify their output. You care about health and fitness, and the role thoughtful coaching plays in people's lives.
