Salary: USD 109,725 - 193,620 / annual
STOKE Space is building Nova, a fully reusable launch vehicle designed for daily flight to radically lower launch costs and increase flight cadence in the space industry. The company is seeking a Launch Engineer for Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) to support the commissioning and operation of a new launch pad at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
In this role, you will be responsible for supporting EHS across STOKE's Florida sites, maintaining environmental stewardship, and ensuring operations set the standard for employee and environment health and safety. You will work as part of a small, well-supported team with access to resources needed to execute at a high level while rapidly developing your skills.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting overall EHS strategy for critical facilities and site operations in support of launch site development, launch vehicle processing & testing, and launch operations
- Maintaining, implementing, and enforcing EHS policies, procedures, and protocols aligned with industry best standards and practices
- Ensuring design, build, and operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations
- Completing system safety hazard analyses and job-specific hazard assessments
- Reviewing and approving launch complex hazardous procedures
- Supporting anomaly investigations, response, and closure
- Implementing engineering controls to eliminate or reduce occupational and compliance risk
- Implementing and maintaining environmental and safety management systems
- Investigating, documenting, reporting, and resolving workplace incidents
- Establishing and maintaining hazard clear areas
- Managing hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams
- Maintaining Spill Prevention, Control, & Countermeasures (SPCC), industrial wastewater permitting, and Light Management Plans (LMPs)
- Supporting Environmental Baseline Surveys (EBS), Biological Assessments (BA), and Environmental Assessments (EA)
- Coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies including FDEP, SLD 45, FAA, and NASA
- Developing and providing contractor and staff training
- Cultivating and maintaining a strong safety culture at the launch site
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in a related role working EHS through new site construction and operations supporting high-performance applications (space, aviation, amusement park, oil & gas, heavy equipment, energy systems, and/or maritime)
- Proven experience developing and implementing system safety and occupational safety programs
- Experience standing up and running EHS programs including OSHA, fall protection, lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work, job site safety, hazmat, and waste streams
- Experience utilizing and maintaining common EHS tools in a launch complex environment including hazardous gas detectors, FLIR cameras, and sound meters
- Proven ability to lead, work autonomously, receive and incorporate constructive feedback, and work well on a high-performing team
- OSHA 30 Hour Certified / OSHA 511/510 Certifications
- Innate ability to prioritize and execute
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, EHS, or similar field
- Willing to relocate to Cape Canaveral, FL
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working hazardous operations including high pressure gas systems, cryogenic liquid systems, high power systems, and/or explosive ordnance
- Launch operations experience as a member of a pad entry team or "Red Team" member
- Familiarity with AFSPCMAN 91-710, MSPSP, and HazOp range requirements as well as DoD explosive siting for launch vehicle programs
- Experience working with 45th SW, 30th SW, NASA, ATF, Coast Guard, and/or Port Canaveral
- Master's degree in engineering, management, EHS, or similar field
