Living Carbon is a public benefit company transforming marginal and degraded land into thriving forests and sustainable feedstock projects. The company is backed by prominent investors including Temasek, Toyota Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital, Felicis Ventures, and Y Combinator.
The Land Partnerships Associate will be responsible for sourcing land for Living Carbon's renewable feedstock and carbon offset projects. This is a business development role focused on identifying, evaluating, and securing land parcels from private landowners, land trusts, nonprofits, corporates, government agencies, and tribal nations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Identifying and cataloging land parcels using Living Carbon's screening tools and criteria
- Establishing contact with landowners and confirming site suitability
- Building a pipeline of land opportunities through professional early engagement
- Preparing and presenting project materials and partnership proposals
- Advancing negotiations and answering landowner questions
- Closing deals and traveling as necessary
- Building relationships with land advisors, regional experts, and industry organizations
- Collaborating with internal teams (forestry, finance, supply chain, legal) to develop project plans
- Continuously improving the landowner engagement process and project economics
The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience in land management, land acquisition, agricultural leasing, business development, or sales. Required qualifications include demonstrated expertise in outreach, relationship building, and advanced negotiations; ability to communicate complex concepts and align stakeholders; willingness to travel multiple times per month; and a bachelor's degree or equivalent in natural resource management, environmental science, agriculture, economics, or business.
Strong candidates will have experience in agriculture or forestry, existing landowner relationships, and GIS/mapping expertise. The role requires living within driving distance of the Midwest, Southeast, or Appalachian Region, or willingness to relocate. This is a hybrid remote role with significant travel requirements.
