Adyen is a global financial technology platform providing payments, data, and financial products for enterprises like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft. The Java Application Core Components (JACC) team is responsible for building and maintaining the shared frameworks and libraries that define how all Java engineering teams at Adyen design, structure, and deploy their applications.
In this role, you will be a senior individual contributor and technical influencer within a lean team of 6 Java experts. You'll design, build, and evolve the internal and open-source Java frameworks and components used across Adyen's entire engineering organization. You'll play an active role in three large-scale migrations that are reshaping Adyen's application architecture, including Kubernetes/cloud migrations and legacy modernization efforts.
Key responsibilities include: designing and evolving core Java frameworks and libraries; providing hands-on technical guidance to other engineering teams on framework usage and best practices; identifying and addressing pain points in workflows used across Adyen; collaborating with platform teams (Kubernetes infrastructure, deployment, security) to ensure components integrate well; and advocating for best practices through code validation rules, workshops, and presentations.
You'll work in a Kanban-like environment with minimal process overhead, gaining real influence over the architecture of a leading payments platform. The role requires strong Java backend expertise (5+ years), excellent code and API design skills, a track record of building high-quality, well-tested software, and the ability to act as a technical influencer with a multiplier mindset. You should be communicative, proactive, decisive under ambiguity, and comfortable driving initiatives with stakeholder alignment.
Nice-to-have skills include experience with Kubernetes/cloud migrations, legacy application modernization, security work, platform development, library/framework development (open source or internal), Java build tools (Gradle/Maven), distributed systems architecture, Spring/Jersey/Feign/OpenAPI, Domain-Driven Design, Test-Driven Development, AI agent workflows, DevOps mindset, and developer advocacy/public speaking experience.
