Salary: USD 123,250 - 166,750 / annual
Defense Unicorns is seeking a Technical Implementation Engineer to join the Commercial Cyber Operations team. This is a hands-on systems role focused on implementing and testing technical security controls across varied customer environments, primarily for defense and federal clients.
You will work directly with customer IT teams to configure and secure identity and access management systems (Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Active Directory, Google Workspace, Google Cloud Identity), deploy and operate endpoint management controls across multiple platforms (Jamf, Microsoft Intune), and implement identity, multifactor authentication, permissions, endpoint security, logging, vulnerability management, patching, backup, and recovery controls. You'll support Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, networks, firewalls, VPNs, DNS, and secure remote access infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include troubleshooting technical issues with customer IT teams and vendors, testing completed changes, producing accurate configuration records and diagrams, delivering implementation work on schedule, and helping automate repeatable work through scripts and checklists. A Compliance Lead will own NIST SP 800-171 interpretation; you will implement the required technical controls with senior engineer support.
The role is fully remote with 10-25% travel expectations. You'll work in an asynchronous environment supporting mission-focused customers across defense and civil agencies.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Experience:
- Experience administering, securing, and troubleshooting business IT environments
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Active Directory, and Google Workspace
- Mobile device management or unified endpoint management experience across multiple platforms, including practical experience with Jamf and Microsoft Intune
- Experience supporting Windows and macOS endpoints; iOS and Android experience strongly preferred
- Familiarity with networking, firewalls, identity, logging, endpoint protection, vulnerability management, patching, and backups
- Ability to troubleshoot methodically, document work accurately, and communicate clearly with customers and internal teams
- Proven ability to deliver results in a remote, asynchronous environment
- US citizenship with CUI access
Preferred Experience:
- GCC High, Azure, Google Cloud Identity, Apple Business Manager, Android Enterprise, Microsoft Defender, or Microsoft Purview experience
- Defense contractor or government experience, particularly with NIST SP 800-171 or NIST SP 800-53 controls
- Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) 2.0 experience
- PowerShell, shell scripting, security monitoring, or workflow-automation experience
- Relevant Microsoft, Google, Apple, cloud, networking, or security certifications
