Discord is seeking an IT Ops Engineer with deep networking expertise to own the company's office and remote network infrastructure. This is not a pure network architect role, but rather a position for someone who came up through IT operations and developed specialized depth in networking while maintaining broad IT ops capabilities.
You will own the end-to-end networking domain, including wireless, wired LAN and switching, DNS, DHCP, IP address management (IPAM), VPN, and Zero Trust access. You'll establish network monitoring, manage configuration through automation and version control, and maintain the networking MSP relationship as a technical partner, holding them accountable to outcomes and ensuring documentation and operability.
Beyond networking, you'll work the shared IT support queue alongside the team, helping employees with day-to-day IT needs. You'll identify recurring workflow breakdowns across the organization, automate them away, and measure results in time and risk saved. You'll also participate in on-call rotations.
The role emphasizes leverage and outcomes over ticket volume. You'll bring a business-problem mindset, strong full-stack troubleshooting instincts, and a collaborative, low-ego, secure-by-design posture with clear written communication.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience managing IT systems in high-growth tech companies
- Deep, hands-on corporate and enterprise networking expertise: wireless, switching, DNS, DHCP, IPAM, VPN, and Zero Trust access
- Generalist knowledge across identity (e.g., Okta), endpoint management (e.g., Jamf, Intune), and SaaS management sufficient to carry a share of the support queue
- Real automation skills: comfortable scripting, building no-code and low-code workflows, and using AI to build automation faster
- Business-problem mindset, strong full-stack troubleshooting instincts, and collaborative communication
Bonus:
- Network certifications (CCNA, CCNP) or equivalent demonstrated depth
- Exposure to SOC 2 or SOX access-review processes
- Background in high-growth consumer tech and multi-region support
