Buildkite is a CI/CD platform trusted by leading engineering teams including Canva, Meta, Mistral AI, and NVIDIA. The company is building out its IT function in the Americas for the first time, and this role is the first Americas-based hire on a small, growing team. This is a hybrid operational and engineering role (roughly 60% operational support, 40% engineering today, shifting toward engineering as automation matures). You'll own day-to-day IT support—device provisioning, SaaS administration, access management, and troubleshooting for a globally distributed engineering team—while building automation and systems to eliminate repetitive work. Key responsibilities include: - Day-to-day operational support: devices, SaaS admin, access management, troubleshooting - Build and maintain automation for access provisioning, onboarding, offboarding, and support workflows - Contribute to Infrastructure as Code using Terraform for SaaS configuration management - Design and build API and webhook integrations across the internal tooling stack - Mature device trust, compliance tooling, and endpoint management - Collaborate with Security, Platform Engineering, and People Ops on cross-functional projects - Document work as you go, not as an afterthought Two aspects distinguish this role: 1. AI-native tooling: You'll be expected to already work with AI tools daily—shipping automation, integrations, and internal tooling through pull requests. The company values your judgment in framing problems, questioning outputs, and verifying behavior. This will be assessed in a live working session. 2. AI platform rollout: You'll co-own the deployment of Serval, an AI-native ITSM platform, to handle first-line support and access requests in Slack. This includes designing workflows, knowledge sources, and guardrails for autonomous agent decisions. You'll report to the IT Engineering Manager (based in Melbourne) and work closely with Engineering, Security, and People Ops. The team is solid and small (three people), so you'll extend existing systems and have real input on what gets built next. Your internal customers are engineers who care deeply about tooling quality. Location: Pacific Time Zone or within one hour. This is the first Americas IT coverage; you'll be the primary point of contact for the region during your working hours, with real autonomy and genuine ownership. You'll have solid afternoon overlap with the APAC team and async support throughout.
