Substack is building an economic platform for independent creators, enabling direct subscriptions and paid sponsorships. The Sponsorships team is expanding the platform's monetization model by connecting brands with creators while maintaining user trust and experience quality.
In this role, you will be the iOS leader for the Sponsorships team, responsible for developing and iterating on sponsorship experiences within Substack's core iOS app. You'll own the full product lifecycle—from concept and research through implementation, A/B testing, and measurement. Key responsibilities include:
- Develop new and existing sponsorship features in the iOS app for both creators and audiences
- Contribute to high-level product strategy and brainstorming sessions with leadership
- Iterate on key user flows across mobile and web platforms, running experiments to validate improvements
- Collaborate cross-functionally with designers, writers, support staff, and product partners
- Work directly with customers and sponsorship partners (e.g., Polymarket) to understand needs and co-develop solutions
- Participate in company-wide customer support to build empathy and inform product decisions
- Provide code review, mentorship, and technical architecture guidance to the team
The Sponsorships team is small and generalist-focused, valuing product-mindedness, prototyping ability, and willingness to work across the full tech stack. You'll have significant influence on product direction and will work closely with leadership and customers.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 3+ years of software engineering experience
- Proven track record shipping high-quality, native iOS apps to the App Store
- Strong experience with both SwiftUI and UIKit (SwiftUI experience is a bonus)
- Independent and autonomous; able to own work and lead without micromanagement
- High standards for production systems and code quality
- Passion for elegant, delightful product design that serves creators
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with diverse teams
- Belief in Substack's mission to build better business models for independent creators
- Experience at a fast-growing startup or high-performing growth team is a plus but not required
