GitLab is seeking an Intermediate Software Engineer to join the Vulnerability Management team, which builds core security workflows for GitLab Ultimate customers. In this role, you'll develop and maintain backend features that help organizations triage, prioritize, and act on vulnerabilities.
You'll work primarily with Ruby on Rails on backend systems including security dashboards, vulnerability reports, and ingestion pipelines. You'll take ownership of well-defined projects, solve technical problems with support from experienced team members, and collaborate across a fullstack team with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers.
Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining backend features for vulnerability management workflows; shipping features and improvements with minimal guidance; improving performance, reliability, and scalability of security data ingestion and reporting systems; collaborating with frontend engineers and contributing across the stack when needed; working with engineers across security teams; collaborating with Product Management and Design to maintain quality standards; crafting code that meets internal standards for style and maintainability; conducting code reviews; identifying and addressing technical debt; and participating in on-call rotations for troubleshooting product operations and urgent engineering issues.
Required experience includes building and maintaining backend applications with Ruby on Rails; delivering and maintaining software systems as part of a larger engineering team; investigating technical problems and working toward practical resolutions; working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL; clear communication and collaboration skills in distributed teams; and interest in learning from others and growing technical skills.
Helpful experience includes frontend development with JavaScript or Vue.js; and experience with Elasticsearch, graph databases, vulnerability management, application security, or related transferable skills.
