GitLab is seeking an Intermediate Backend Engineer to join the newly established Platform Readiness team within Developer Experience. The Platform Readiness team is building internal developer tooling that embeds platform readiness intelligence directly into GitLab's software development lifecycle, enabling features to ship successfully across four distinct deployment platforms: Self-Managed, Dedicated, Dedicated for Government, and GitLab.com. In this role, you will contribute to systems that solve a critical problem: developers currently discover platform compatibility issues late in development, triggering costly rework, delays, and emergency escalations. You'll work on concrete, high-impact problems while developing expertise in platform readiness automation and AI-driven systems. Key responsibilities include: - Building and maintaining agentic workflow components on the Duo Agent Platform, including the Core Agentic Workflow (DAP flow) and the Requirements Agent; writing tests, documentation, and evaluations for agentic-workflow behavior - Contributing to the platform requirements knowledge base by adding requirements, evolving the schema, and improving validation tooling; collaborating with platform teams to translate their expertise into structured requirements - Building integration surfaces that enable feature teams to engage the Platform Readiness team where they already work: issues, merge requests, design documents, and CI/CD pipelines - Collaborating with platform teams (Infrastructure, Security, Data) to translate their expertise into platform readiness artifacts and domain skills - Writing clear documentation and evaluations that validate agentic-workflow behavior and improve assessment accuracy Required experience includes 2+ years of backend-focused software engineering, proficiency in TypeScript/Node, Python, or Golang, comfort reading and contributing to schemas (YAML, JSON Schema), operational exposure to Kubernetes, ability to work asynchronously with clear written communication, and exposure to LLM APIs, prompts, or agentic frameworks. Highly valued experience includes Ruby familiarity, GitLab-style development workflows, open source contributions, and interest in developer experience or platform engineering. Strong differentiators include hands-on experience with agentic workflow frameworks (DAP, LangGraph, etc.), contributions to structured requirements or specification bodies, and observability instincts.
