Helion is a fusion power company based in Everett, WA, on a mission to build the world's first fusion power plant. The company has raised $1.5 billion from investors including Sam Altman, Mithril, Capricorn Investment Group, Thrive Capital, LightSpeed Venture Partners, and SoftBank. Helion's current prototype, Polaris, has achieved record-breaking plasma temperatures of 150 million degrees Celsius (13 keV), and the company is advancing toward its next-generation prototype, Orion.
In this role, you will lead cross-subsystem integration and test activities for Helion's fusion generator prototypes. This is a hands-on position with broad technical scope spanning build and commissioning phases. You will report to a Mechanical Engineering Lead and play a key role in shaping the execution and culture of a growing engineering team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the integration sequence and day-to-day execution of assembly across generator subsystems (vacuum systems, electromagnets, high-voltage capacitor systems, controls, diagnostics, radiation safety)
- Developing and managing multidisciplinary schedules on daily and weekly bases to ensure full build completion
- Defining, planning, and executing integrated subsystem tests in collaboration with subsystem owners
- Leading build completion reviews to verify operational readiness and test preparedness
- Collaborating with production, test, and engineering teams to improve integration and build processes
- Authoring work instructions for technician teams supporting nominal builds and non-conformance resolution
- Leading root cause analyses and implementing corrective actions during integration and build
- Driving strategies for hardware upgrades, replacements, and integration improvements to maximize uptime
- Performing trade studies on build sequencing, hardware prioritization, and resource allocation to influence system development approach
This role is onsite at Helion's headquarters in Everett, WA.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field
- 3+ years of professional experience delivering full-scope engineering projects, including schedule ownership
- Demonstrated use of engineering first-principles and structured problem-solving
- Hands-on experience across multiple engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, fluids)
- Effective technical communication across functional and organizational levels
