Kin Insurance is seeking an Insurance Counsel - Forms Drafting to own policy form development for new state launches and product expansions. You will be the primary drafter for either personal auto or property lines, responsible for translating state statutes and regulations into compliant, clear policy language.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research state insurance statutes and regulations directly, converting requirements into compliant policy wording
- Draft complete new state and product forms packages (base policies, endorsements, state amendatory endorsements, required notices) ready for filing
- Develop responses to Department of Insurance objections on forms and advocate for Kin's position with regulators during audits and market conduct exams
- Provide legal advice to internal partners (Claims, Product, Customer Experience, Underwriting) on coverage interpretation and form wording
- Perform first-pass legal review of forms drafted within the team, escalating novel state law questions to Senior Insurance Counsel
- Build and maintain countrywide base forms and reusable state kits for your assigned line of business
- Establish drafting standards and reusable language to accelerate future state launches
- Serve as backup drafter for the other line of business to ensure no launch depends on a single person
- Design and deliver internal training on Kin's policy forms, coverage interpretation, and state regulatory expectations
- Identify legal risks in proposed product designs or coverage changes before form-drafting stage
- Review AI-assisted drafts and research for legal accuracy and compliance, establishing guardrails for AI tool usage
- Maintain and update forms packages in response to new statutes, regulations, DOI bulletins, and product enhancements
You'll report to the Senior Insurance Counsel within the Legal & Compliance team. Success in the first year means delivering multiple complete state and product forms packages, becoming the go-to subject matter expert on Kin's policy forms, reducing escalations to Senior Insurance Counsel, and enabling the team to meet filing deadlines even when one drafter is unavailable.
