Hopper is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to lead the voice and realtime layer of HTS Assist, an agentic AI assistant that resolves real customer travel issues—flight changes, cancellations, refunds, bookings—via chat and voice for major travel brands worldwide.
You will own the complete voice channel, including telephony and CPaaS integrations (Twilio, Amazon Connect), continuous speech recognition and synthesis pipelines, realtime model orchestration, and latency/quality budgets. You'll develop features across the full stack: React/TypeScript chat interfaces, Scala and Python backend services, and GCP infrastructure. The team is small and experienced; your scope is broad, and the path from your code to a traveler's phone call is short.
Key responsibilities include designing multitenant architecture where a single codebase serves multiple partners via configuration; building security and compliance mechanisms (guardrails, content filtering, PII redaction integration points); maintaining health of revenue-critical deployments through observability, alerting, incident management, and SLA compliance; developing platform capabilities that field engineers configure for partner telephony integrations and production rollouts; and contributing to technical excellence through code review, architecture reviews, and mentoring.
You bring 6+ years of software engineering experience with senior-level responsibility on production systems and genuine full-stack versatility. You have hands-on experience with realtime systems: voice applications, WebRTC/SIP, media streaming, or comparable low-latency products. You're proficient in modern frontend frameworks (React, TypeScript), backend expertise (Scala or JVM languages, and/or Python), and cloud infrastructure (GCP or AWS). You've designed, developed, and maintained RESTful APIs, microservices, or event-driven systems. You integrate AI coding tools into your workflow with judgment to review, correct, and own production code. You think operationally: SLAs, observability, on-call, rollback plans. You decompose complex problems, make pragmatic tradeoffs, and deliver iteratively with strong communication across product, design, and ops teams.
Bonuses: conversational AI or LLM orchestration experience (Deepgram, ElevenLabs, Whisper, OpenAI Realtime); practical knowledge of cloud telephony or CPaaS platforms (Twilio, Amazon Connect, Genesys, LiveKit); customer service tools, CRM, contact center, or process automation background; travel industry tech (PSS/GDS, PMS/CRS).
