Lightning AI, the company behind PyTorch Lightning, is seeking a Storage Infrastructure Engineer to join its Infrastructure Engineering team. The role focuses on building and operating storage systems that power large-scale AI/ML training, inference, and HPC workloads at the intersection of software, hardware, and operations.
You will own the data plane of the storage infrastructure, supporting high-throughput, low-latency data access for demanding AI workloads. Key responsibilities include operating and scaling distributed storage systems (VAST, Ceph, S3-compatible object storage), troubleshooting complex storage and data path issues across hardware and software layers, and optimizing performance for AI training and inference.
On the automation and tooling side, you'll build and maintain infrastructure-as-code for provisioning, managing, and monitoring storage systems. You'll develop Python-based tools and workflows to reduce manual operational overhead and improve lifecycle management of storage clusters from deployment through scaling.
You'll also manage and operate Linux-based systems in production, including bare-metal environments, implement monitoring and observability for storage systems, and contribute to incident response and reliability improvements.
The role is based in one of Lightning AI's hubs (NYC, SF, Seattle, or London) with a minimum of 2 in-office days per week and occasional team/company offsites.
