Bitwarden is the leading open-source password management solution, protecting individuals, teams, and enterprises with strong security practices. As a Senior Rust Software Engineer on the Desktop Native team, you will own the design, development, and maintenance of critical desktop integrations including SSH agent, Autotype, native passkeys, and DuckDuckGo integration—all built on a shared cross-platform Rust SDK that also powers browser autofill.
Your primary focus will be systems-level engineering: working with Rust, FFI (Foreign Function Interface), language bindings, and native OS-level APIs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. You'll tackle the unique challenge of delivering secure, reliable native experiences on top of a zero-knowledge, end-to-end encrypted platform—this is not a front-end or UI role, but deep systems work.
Key responsibilities include designing and building native desktop integrations; participating in the evolution of the shared Rust SDK and its language bindings; interfacing directly with OS-level APIs; improving performance, reliability, and security of credential-handling code; partnering cross-functionally with product, design, QA, and the autofill team; reviewing pull requests and community contributions; identifying and addressing technical debt; and independently planning, estimating, and delivering feature work and bug fixes.
You bring 4–6+ years of production Rust and backend/systems experience, including FFI and language bindings. You have hands-on native desktop application experience on Windows, macOS, or Linux. You've designed or versioned cross-platform SDKs or shared libraries consumed by multiple client surfaces. Experience with AI tooling (Anthropic Claude preferred), Electron, TypeScript, and web tech for cross-platform desktop apps is a plus. You're collaborative, adaptable, authentic, and passionate about open source and internet security.
