OpenGov is seeking an Implementation Engineer III to lead complex technical delivery for government customers adopting OpenGov's AI and ERP cloud platform. This senior role owns end-to-end implementation of the most complex product configurations and data migrations across a portfolio of deployments serving U.S. cities, counties, state agencies, school districts, and special districts.
You will lead requirements validation, configuration and data reviews, platform configuration and testing, data migration and reconciliation, and user enablement, guiding customers through the full deployment journey from kickoff to go-live. Acting as a trusted technical advisor with deep product knowledge and advanced data and database expertise, you will understand each customer's goals, pain points, and workflows, translating them into scalable, maintainable solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead data migration, configuration, and testing for complex government implementations
- Perform configuration reviews across the team, validating platform setup against requirements and best practices
- Perform data reviews, validating migrated data for completeness, accuracy, and integrity
- Own complex customer data migration end to end, including database schema mapping, ETL tool configuration, and advanced scripting
- Confirm and pressure-test customer requirements, resolving ambiguity and advising on optimal solution design
- Design and execute comprehensive test scenarios validating configuration and migrated data
- Serve as primary technical point of contact for government stakeholders (Budget Directors, IT personnel, decision-makers)
- Identify recurring customer pain points and partner with cross-functional teams to improve processes
- Mentor and coach Associate and mid-level Implementation Engineers
- Define and improve implementation standards, templates, playbooks, and reusable tooling
- Partner with Project Management, Customer Success, Data/Integration, and Product teams
The role blends hands-on technical delivery, including data transformation and ETL, with a consultative, customer-first approach.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6 to 9 years of experience in software implementation, data migration, or technical consulting, ideally with enterprise or SaaS products
- 5+ years of hands-on SQL scripting experience, including complex queries, data transformation, and reconciliation
- 3+ years of Python or similar scripting experience for automation and data processing
- Deep experience with database technologies, ETL, and data-migration concepts and tools, including schema design and performance considerations
- Experience implementing AI-driven solutions for automation, workflow optimization, and data-driven insights
- Demonstrated ability to deliver complex implementations end to end and mentor less-experienced engineers
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with strong teamwork and customer-service mentality
- Strong attention to detail with proven ability to validate, reconcile, and sign off on data and configuration
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing product and respond strategically to evolving customer needs
- Bachelor's degree in a technical or related field
