Backcountry, a multi-brand adventure lifestyle company with a $1B+ portfolio spanning 13 brands, is seeking a Human Resources Director to lead HR strategy and capability across the organization. You will report to the VP of Human Resources and manage a team of HR managers across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Key responsibilities include:
**Team Leadership & HR Capability**: Lead and develop an HR manager team across multiple countries, building programs that raise HR capability in each location. Set clear expectations, coach managers, and create accountability structures that drive consistent performance.
**Talent & Performance Management**: Own the performance appraisal process end-to-end, including goal development, calibration, and accountability. Diagnose people and capability gaps—performance, talent, compensation—and design targeted interventions to close them.
**Learning & Development**: Design and implement individual and group training programs that support growth, development, and compliance across the portfolio.
**Business Transformation & M&A**: Lead M&A integration processes from the HR side, including org design, onboarding, policy harmonization, and culture alignment. Partner with management and stakeholders to support business transformation and change initiatives through people strategy.
**Employee Engagement**: Work closely with brand leadership to create and sustain employee engagement programs that enable excellent performance across a multi-brand environment.
You will have executive access, working directly with C-suite leaders and brand CEOs to shape people strategy. This is a portfolio-level ownership role where you define HR programs from scratch and see your work reflected across 13 brands and diverse employee populations (corporate, retail, distribution).

**Requirements:**
- 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including time as an HR business partner
- 3+ years of people management experience; global or multi-country team leadership preferred
- 2+ years of learning and development experience designing and delivering training programs
- Demonstrated experience with M&A and acquisition integration from an HR perspective
- Track record supporting business transformation and change initiatives
- Experience working across diverse employee populations (corporate, retail, distribution)
- Strong communication skills and ability to operate effectively across time zones
