REGENT is developing Seagliders—wing-in-ground-effect craft that travel just above water at 180 mph with 180-mile range on current battery technology. The company is scaling from prototype to full production and seeking a Human Factors Engineer to own the human side of Viceroy, their first production vehicle. In this end-to-end engineering role, you will develop human factors requirements through task analysis of crew operations across floating, foiling, and flying modes—including transitions, abnormal, and emergency cases—and passenger boarding, seating, and evacuation. You'll translate requirements into cockpit and cabin layout decisions using anthropometric and workload analysis, build physical and digital mockups for evaluation, run pilot-in-the-loop and cabin evaluations with representative users, and produce analyses supporting the certification argument with the U.S. Coast Guard. Key responsibilities include: deriving and baselining human factors requirements with full traceability for PDR and CDR; driving layout and interface decisions through anthropometry, vision/reach envelopes, workload assessment, and human error analysis; building low- to mid-fidelity physical mockups and digital human models; designing and executing formative and summative evaluations with pilots, test crews, and passengers; partnering with Certification to define the human factors compliance approach under the USCG Design Basis Agreement; brokering cross-disciplinary trade-offs to ensure human factors findings become design changes; and establishing methods, templates, and evaluation protocols that scale to future programs. You'll work closely with Mission Software on displays and crew alerting, Hardware Engineering on interiors and structure, Certification on compliance, and Test Operations and prototype pilots. Success means a cockpit and cabin that pass evaluation with real crews before hardware commitment, baselined and traceable human factors requirements verified by CDR, and a reusable human factors practice across all REGENT vehicles. The company offers competitive compensation with equity, 100% premium coverage for health/dental/vision insurance, 401(k) matching, flexible time off, paid parental leave, relocation packages, free daily catered lunches, and professional development opportunities. REQUIREMENTS: - Strong command of anthropometry, workload and situational awareness assessment, human error analysis, display and alerting design principles, and physical ergonomics of seats, restraints, and controls. - End-to-end crew station ownership: you've owned human factors for a complete operator workstation (cockpit, bridge, control room, or vehicle cabin) from requirements through design, mockup, evaluation, and implemented change. - Experience designing and running usability and performance evaluations with real operators, using quantitative measures (task success, time, error, SUS, NASA-TLX, or equivalent), and translating results into design decisions. - Experience writing verifiable, traceable human factors requirements and knowledge of how human factors evidence is structured in a regulated environment (aerospace, defense, maritime, automotive, or medical). - Hands-on mockup capability: you've built and iterated physical mockups (foam-core, wood, 3D-printed, bucks) and used digital human modeling or interactive display prototypes. - Demonstrated cross-functional influence: you've changed structural, software, and avionics decisions without owning those teams. - Preference for standing up practices from little or nothing, or clear desire to do so.
