Fuse Energy is a venture-backed energy startup ($200M+ raised from Balderton, Accel, Creandum, Lowercarbon, Ribbit, and others) building an integrated renewable energy company. They develop solar, battery storage, grid infrastructure, and distributed energy systems, selling directly to consumers to reduce costs.
The Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Engineer will be responsible for site-based HSE performance across Fuse Energy's UK utility-scale renewable portfolio, supporting projects from development through construction, commissioning, and early operations. Reporting to the Head of Projects, this role is central to ensuring all activities are delivered safely, compliantly, and in line with legal, regulatory, and internal standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support HSE delivery across construction and operational portfolio, ensuring safe, compliant, and environmentally sound project delivery
- Develop and implement HSE policies, procedures, and management systems
- Promote strong safety culture across internal teams, sites, EPC contractors, and subcontractors
- Provide day-to-day HSE support and guidance to project managers, site teams, and contractors
- Monitor compliance with UK legislation, CDM Regulations, HSE requirements, and company standards
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety reviews; identify risks and track corrective actions
- Review RAMS, risk assessments, method statements, and HSE documentation
- Support incident investigation, near-miss reporting, and unsafe condition tracking
- Monitor HSE performance and contribute to project and portfolio-level KPIs
- Support environmental compliance across construction and operational sites
- Assist with contractor mobilization, onboarding, and HSE performance monitoring
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, incidents, training, and HSE activities
- Support internal, external, regulatory, and lender audits
- Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, HSE training, and safety awareness programs
- Share lessons learned and drive continuous improvement across projects
Requirements:
- 3–7 years of experience in HSE roles within construction, energy, utilities, or infrastructure sectors
- Strong experience in utility-scale Solar PV, BESS, wind, or large infrastructure projects
- NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent) essential
- Strong understanding of UK HSE legislation and CDM Regulations
- Experience managing HSE across multiple construction sites or projects
- Knowledge of ISO standards (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001) advantageous
- Experience conducting audits, investigations, and risk assessments
- Strong understanding of EPC environments and contractor management
