Salary: USD 171,200 - 214,000 / annual
Scale is an AI startup providing high-quality training data and full-stack technologies to power leading AI models. As Head of Workplace, you will lead the global Workplace function across approximately 10 offices worldwide, reporting to the People Team leadership.
You will own Scale's entire real estate portfolio, workplace budget, and day-to-day office experience globally. This is a strategic leadership role managing real estate strategy, vendor relationships, budgets, workplace experience, office design, safety compliance, and a team of workplace professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
Real Estate Portfolio Management: Lead strategy and oversight of Scale's global real estate across ~10 offices. Manage site selection, lease negotiation and administration, renewals, and property disposition. Partner with international HR and business leaders on growth and expansion planning. Use occupancy and cost data to inform decisions on space growth, consolidation, or exit.
Vendor & Service Delivery: Own the relationship with integrated facilities management partner (CBRE) and other outsourced service providers. Define and manage SLAs, KPIs, and performance reviews. Lead vendor sourcing, contract negotiations, and renewals.
Budget & Financial Ownership: Own the global Workplace and Real Estate budget including leases, facilities operations, food and beverage, and capital projects. Build annual budgets and forecasts, track spend against plan, and report to Finance and leadership. Identify cost reduction opportunities without compromising employee experience.
Workplace Experience & Food & Beverage: Oversee food and beverage programs across all offices. Partner with Employee Experience on events, amenities, and culture-building programs. Gather and act on employee feedback to continuously improve office experience.
Workplace Design & Projects: Lead office openings, expansions, relocations, and build-outs from start to finish. Design flexible, sustainable, collaborative workspaces leveraging technology.
Safety, Preparedness & Compliance: Partner with Security on workplace safety, emergency preparedness, and business continuity. Own health and safety compliance including evacuation plans, drills, first aid/AED readiness, and incident response. Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
Team Leadership: Build, lead, and develop a global team of Workplace professionals. Partner cross-functionally with People, Security, IT, Finance, and Legal on consistent workplace standards.
Requirements:
- Proven experience leading a global, multi-site Real Estate and Workplace function
- Deep experience managing integrated facilities management partners (e.g., CBRE, JLL, Cushman & Wakefield) and outsourced service models
- Track record of owning and managing large, multi-million-dollar operating and capital budgets
- Experience negotiating leases and leading office openings, build-outs, and relocations, including internationally
- Strong analytical skills and data-driven approach to decision-making
- Strategic mindset balancing cost, employee experience, and business needs
- Excellent project management skills with track record of on-time, on-budget delivery
- Experience building and leading strong Workplace teams of both FTEs and vendor partners
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to influence senior leaders and collaborate cross-functionally
