Salary: USD 175,000 - 200,000 / annual
Abode Money is an AI-powered financial home manager helping homeowners save on property taxes, insurance, mortgages, and related costs. The company has raised $23M from top-tier investors including Sequoia and Permanent Capital.
You will serve as Head of Strategy and Finance, reporting directly to the CEO and owning the company's most critical financial and strategic decisions. The role spans three primary areas:
**Hard Strategic Problems**: Evaluate major business questions such as building a last-mile contractor network, brand positioning, and user retention gaps. You'll bring data-driven rigor to ambiguous challenges and deliver actionable recommendations.
**New Business Initiatives**: Launch and scale new lines of business from zero, including a nationwide insurance brokerage, PMI roll-off product, and ambassador programs. You'll run these until they're operationally mature, then hand off to permanent leadership.
**Finance & Regulatory Operations**: Manage the outsourced controller and bookkeeping function, own the monthly close cadence, build and maintain the budget, and monitor KPIs against projections. You'll also manage legal and regulatory strategy, working with in-house and outside counsel on entity licensing, compliance, and relationships with state agencies, county assessors, and financial institution partners. Abode operates under thousands of separate regulatory regimes across all 50 states.
You'll have visibility across all functions, sit in board and investor meetings, and operate as an extension of the CEO on whatever is most important. The expectation is that successful initiatives will outgrow you and get their own leader—this role is designed as a training ground for founders or future function leaders.
**Requirements:**
- 8+ years of experience in consulting, banking, or similar analytical roles, plus real operating experience at a startup
- Strong financial and analytical skills; comfortable building and owning financial models, budgets, and KPI packs independently
- Ability to use AI tools to accelerate analysis, modeling, and research
- Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of a project or initiative with measurable results
- Based in Austin and able to work onsite
- Comfort with legal and regulatory detail; ability to hold your own with lawyers and know when to escalate
- Ability to switch context rapidly without losing coherence
- Bonus: experience in finance operations, regulatory strategy, policy/government affairs, or regulated industries (insurance, lending)
