SumUp is a fintech platform serving over 4 million small businesses across 38 markets with payment, finance, and customer relationship tools. Spain and Portugal are early-stage markets for the company's field sales operation, and this role is to scale them from incubation into a self-sustaining growth phase.
You will build and lead the regional management structure from the ground up, overseeing up to six regional managers, their territory managers, and self-employed consultants across Spain and Portugal. This is a rare opportunity to design a sales organization almost from scratch with direct influence on how SumUp wins two of its most important European growth markets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and leading a founding team of regional managers, setting standards for channel operations
- Driving sales execution and revenue growth in line with the regional business plan while protecting profit margins
- Designing career trajectories and performance management systems for a channel built largely on self-employed consultants
- Partnering with regional and territory managers through joint field visits, coaching, and regular team touchpoints
- Tracking and acting on key sales metrics (quota attainment, sales cycle length, customer retention) and feeding insights to wider stakeholders
The role is office-first based in Barcelona with regular time in the field across both countries.
Requirements:
- Experience leading field sales managers, ideally within merchant services or comparable in-market sales environments
- Strong track record of building and scaling sales teams from early or incubation stage
- Comfort working with self-employed consultant models and understanding their unique motivation and retention challenges
- Ability to translate business plans into clear performance targets and day-to-day sales execution
- Excellent communication skills with confidence to coach, challenge, and align a distributed field team
