Salary: USD 161,000 - 224,000 / annual

Checkr is recognized on the Forbes Cloud 100 2025 list and is a Y Combinator 2024 Breakthrough Company. You will lead Checkr's procurement function, reporting to the Controller. This is a hands-on leadership role combining negotiation, team management, and cross-functional partnership. You will own procurement workflows and partner directly with budget holders across the business to drive negotiation strategy on new spend and contract renewals. Key responsibilities: - Lead and develop a high-performing procurement team, setting expectations, priorities, and growth plans - Build the operating system (intake SLAs, negotiation playbooks, escalation paths) that enables efficient scaling as the company grows - Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to shape negotiation strategy for new spend and contract renewals - Own Checkr's procurement policy, approval thresholds, and vendor onboarding/due diligence process - Build SOX controls and audit requirements related to procurement and vendor spend controls - Personally run vendor negotiations while coaching the team to do the same - Provide visibility to the organization on procurement activity Checkr operates from hub locations in Denver, CO; San Francisco, CA; Nashville, TN; and Santiago, Chile. Individuals are expected to work from the office 3+ days per week. In-office perks include lunch five times weekly, commuter stipend, and snacks/beverages. A relocation stipend may be available. Requirements: - 10+ years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, or vendor management, including direct people management experience - Track record of personally negotiating contracts across a range of spend categories (software/SaaS, professional services, facilities, etc.) - Hands-on experience with a procure-to-pay or intake/orchestration platform (Zip or comparable tools) - Strong cross-functional influence skills driving alignment with budget holders and stakeholders - Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with evolving process and tooling - Clear, structured communication; able to translate procurement activity into terms finance and executive leadership can act on - A-player mindset with strong bias for action: raises the bar, moves with urgency, stays resilient through ambiguity, takes ownership to deliver meaningful outcomes
