Fireworks is a Series D AI infrastructure platform ($17.5B valuation) backed by AMD, NVIDIA, Sequoia, and others. The company enables enterprises to build, train, and serve AI models tailored to their data and workflows.
You will lead the end-to-end process architecture and controls foundation for Fireworks' AI infrastructure business. This is a transformational role spanning token/usage accuracy, Order-to-Cash (O2C), Purchase-to-Pay (P2P), and financial operations governance.
The role follows a phased transformation: Build the foundation → Standardize → Automate and scale with AI.
Key Responsibilities:
**Process Foundation & Transformation**: Design end-to-end process architecture for AI infrastructure and financial operations. Assess current state (fragmented processes, manual workarounds, spreadsheet dependencies, control gaps, reconciliation issues). Develop standard operating procedures, RACI frameworks, control matrices, and operational playbooks. Create a transformation roadmap prioritizing foundational improvements, risk remediation, and automation opportunities.
**AI Automation & Manual Effort Reduction**: Identify high-volume, repetitive, reconciliation-intensive activities for AI-enabled automation (usage reconciliation, anomaly detection, billing validation, invoice matching, leakage identification, accrual estimation, exception classification). Design exception-based management where systems handle routine transactions and teams focus on material exceptions. Establish measurable targets for reducing manual touchpoints, spreadsheet dependency, and error rates.
**Token & Usage Accuracy**: Standardize frameworks for accuracy and traceability of token and infrastructure usage data. Establish automated reconciliations between infrastructure telemetry, metering platforms, pricing systems, contracts, billing systems, supplier data, and the general ledger. Develop preventive and detective controls for missing usage, duplicates, incorrect pricing, unbilled consumption, and unexpected patterns.
**Order-to-Cash**: Own end-to-end O2C (contract → provisioning → usage capture → rating → invoicing → AR → collections → revenue reporting). Build standardized foundation supporting committed and consumption-based models. Ensure contracts, pricing, and discounts translate correctly into operational and billing systems. Establish automated controls over usage-to-invoice reconciliation. Reduce manual billing adjustments and discrepancies.
**Purchase-to-Pay**: Own P2P (capacity planning → purchase commitment → PO → consumption → invoice validation → accrual → payment → reconciliation). Build standardized foundation connecting procurement, infrastructure usage, supplier contracts, invoices, and accounting. Establish controls ensuring vendor invoices reflect contracted pricing and actual consumption. Reduce manual invoice review through AI-enabled validation.
**Financial & Operational Controls**: Design scalable controls framework covering usage completeness, token accuracy, pricing accuracy, billing, supplier invoicing, revenue completeness, cost completeness, contract compliance, approvals, reconciliations, and data integrity. Prioritize automated controls over manual. Establish control owners, evidence requirements, review frequencies, and exception thresholds. Support SOX-compliant operations where applicable.
**Process Automation & Systems**: Drive automation across infrastructure-to-finance workflows. Partner with Product, Engineering, Finance Systems, and Data teams on requirements for metering, rating, pricing, billing, procurement, ERP, reconciliation, and AI-enabled exception management. Develop scalable architecture connecting infrastructure telemetry to operational and financial systems. Create prioritized automation backlog based on transaction volume, manual effort, financial risk, and business impact.
**Operating Metrics & Governance**: Establish KPIs and KRIs measuring process health and automation progress. Lead cross-functional operating reviews to identify systemic issues and drive remediation. Use recurring exceptions as inputs into process redesign and automation priorities.
**Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership**: Build and lead a high-performing Process & Controls organization. Act as connective layer between AI Infrastructure, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Procurement, Sales Operations, Product, Data, and Internal Audit. Establish accountability for cross-functional processes. Influence system architecture and operating-model decisions. Create culture of continuous improvement: manual → standardized → controlled → automated → AI-enabled.
**Requirements**:
- 10+ years of experience in process transformation, controllership, finance operations, business operations, internal controls, or related disciplines
- Significant leadership experience building or transforming complex, cross-functional processes
- Demonstrated experience establishing process foundations in environments with immature, fragmented, or rapidly evolving workflows
- Strong expertise in Order-to-Cash and Purchase-to-Pay processes
- Experience designing financial and operational control frameworks in technology, cloud infrastructure, SaaS, hyperscale infrastructure, or consumption-based businesses
- Strong understanding of usage-based billing, metering, reconciliation, pricing, and consumption economics
- Track record of simplifying processes and reducing manual work through automation
- Experience partnering with Engineering, Data, Product, Finance, Accounting, and Procurement organizations
- Strong knowledge of ERP, billing, procurement, data, and financial systems
- Experience designing automated reconciliations and exception-management processes
- Familiarity with AI-enabled workflow automation, anomaly detection, and intelligent operations
- Familiarity with SOX, financial reporting controls, audit requirements, and accounting processes
- Ability to understand complex data flows and translate technical workflows into scalable business and financial processes
**Preferred Experience**:
- Experience operating in high-growth AI, cloud infrastructure, hyperscaler, or technology company
- Experience with consumption-based revenue and cost models
- Familiarity with cloud providers and AI infrastructure vendors
- Experience implementing or scaling usage metering, billing, FinOps, procurement, reconciliation, or workflow platforms
- Experience leading large-scale process clean-up, transformation, and automation programs
