Instawork Robotics Labs (IRL) is building the infrastructure to close the "100,000-year data gap" in physical AI — the gulf between what AI language models know and what robots need to learn from real-world environments. IRL deploys skilled workers into commercial and residential settings (kitchens, warehouses, hotels, homes) to capture high-fidelity task data that leading robotics labs use to train foundation models.
As Head of Operations, you will build and scale large, distributed, real-world operations from the ground up. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in ambiguous, fast-changing environments and has a proven track record of turning blank sheets into functioning, scalable operations.
Key responsibilities:
- Build and scale operations across multiple locations, teams, and workflows
- Define operating models, design processes, establish metrics, and create systems for 10x growth
- Hire and develop high-performing teams with a culture of ownership and accountability
- Identify bottlenecks, build repeatable processes, and continuously improve execution
- Make decisions quickly with incomplete information and keep the team moving at speed
- Own operational outcomes: productivity, quality, efficiency, and performance metrics
- Balance speed, quality, cost, and scale in a hardware-adjacent, operationally intensive environment
You are someone who has built large, distributed operations from scratch (not inherited them). You have 12+ years of operations experience, ideally in e-commerce, logistics, marketplaces, field operations, fast-scaling startups, or hardware-adjacent businesses. You are relentlessly execution-oriented, comfortable with ambiguity, and naturally think "I'll figure it out." You can spend the morning reviewing metrics and the afternoon solving problems on the ground. You have extreme agility, resilience, and strong operational judgment about when to build processes, break them, or simply get things done.
