Exa is building a search engine for the AI era, having raised $250M in Series C funding (led by a16z, with Benchmark, Lightspeed, and YC participating). The company's Search API powers AI agents, Fortune 500 companies, and AI labs, disrupting an industry unchanged since the 1990s. The ~100-person team is based largely in SF and includes talent from Harvard, MIT, Meta, Google Research, and founder backgrounds.
You will be Exa's first senior marketing leader outside the United States, setting and executing marketing strategy for Europe. This is a player-coach role: you will write the regional plan and execute it yourself, from shaping campaigns and adapting messaging to hosting executive dinners and sitting in pipeline reviews with Sales. You start as a team of one with meaningful budget for field events, conferences, and developer events. Your first hire—an early-career field events marketer—is expected within months, with additional headcount as growth justifies.
Key responsibilities include:
**EMEA Marketing Strategy**: Own the regional marketing plan, translate global priorities into EMEA strategy, prioritize markets by opportunity and sales coverage, and manage the EMEA marketing budget focused on field events, conferences, developer events, and selective sponsorships. Success is measured by revenue growth.
**Go-to-Market by Market**: Build tailored go-to-market approaches for priority markets across the UK, EU, Middle East, and Africa. Determine the right motion (direct, partner-led, or channel-based) for each market, and decide which markets should wait until product-led signals justify spend.
**Pipeline and Demand**: Own EMEA pipeline targets. Build programs that create qualified opportunities and move them through the sales cycle: account-based campaigns, executive dinners, high-value trade shows, pipeline reactivation, and localized content. Use pipeline and conversion data to shift investment toward what works.
**Sales Partnership**: Be the marketing partner to EMEA Sales, SDRs, and regional partners. Align on ICP, target accounts, campaign priorities, lead routing, and follow-up. Run a regular operating rhythm with Sales.
**Product-Led Growth in Region**: Ensure EMEA developers and AI-native companies find Exa, sign up, and build. Run developer events, hackathons, and meetups with DevRel support. Sponsor local developer creators and communities. Work with Digital and Growth Marketing on inbound quality and conversion.
**Exa Story in EMEA**: Adapt Exa's global positioning for EMEA buyers, identifying where the story needs local proof, language, or emphasis. Bring customer and market insight into messaging, launches, and roadmap through Product Marketing.
**Agencies, Partners, and Vendors**: Select and manage agencies, event vendors, and marketing partners across the region, including co-marketing with channel and cloud partners.
**Team Building**: Hire and lead the EMEA marketing team as the region grows, starting with a field events manager. Set the bar, develop people, and build a function that executes without you in every room.
The role is based in-person in London with regular travel across EMEA and periodic trips to San Francisco HQ.
**Requirements**:
- 10+ years in B2B marketing at technology companies, including 3+ years leading marketing for EMEA or a major part of it (UK plus at least one European market)
- A record of owning a regional pipeline number and budget, and of deciding where to invest across markets
- Hands-on experience with both direct and partner-led go-to-market, ideally including the UK
- Strong sales partnership: an operating rhythm built with Sales and SDRs, and an example of pushing back on a seller request
- Deep field and event craft; experience running conferences, executive dinners, and developer events; ability to build and run a campaign end to end
- Comfort with technical products and technical buyers; ability to hold real conversations about APIs, agents, and retrieval
- Experience building a region for a US-headquartered company, operating semi-autonomously across time zones
- Evidence of hiring and developing marketers
- Proven AI builder mindset; shipped automations or internal tools with LLMs
**Nice to Have**:
- Experience at a developer tools, API-first, cloud, or data infrastructure company
- Experience running product-led growth alongside an enterprise sales motion
- German, French, Dutch, or another regional language
- Relationships with regional cloud providers, systems integrators, or developer communities
- Experience launching a region from zero at an early-stage company
