Conveo is a Y Combinator-backed AI research platform that enables fast, affordable, and high-quality consumer and B2B research. The company raised a $50M Series A led by DST Global, Balderton, and Visionaries and is in active hypergrowth, scaling from ~20 people at founding to ~125 by year-end 2026. Global brands like Unilever, Google, and Orange use Conveo's AI video interviewer to generate customer insights across marketing and product teams. As the first Head of Legal, you will build Conveo's legal function from the ground up. This is a strategic partnership role reporting to the CFO with a strong dotted line to the CEO. You will have full visibility across the organization and help balance risk and opportunity as the company scales across Europe and the US. Key responsibilities include: owning commercial contracts with enterprise clients and reseller partners (MSAs, DPAs, SLAs, order forms); reviewing and negotiating supplier agreements; setting fallback positions to keep deals moving; building templates and playbooks for the sales team. You will establish the legal function's infrastructure—intake processes, templates, contract repository, and external counsel management across multiple jurisdictions. You'll lead a legal associate directly and manage external lawyers, keeping spend predictable and focused. You will also own corporate, people, and IP matters: maintaining corporate housekeeping across entities, supporting fundraising and due diligence, partnering with the People team on employment and equity matters across the UK, Belgium, and US, and protecting the company's IP and brand. A critical area is data privacy and AI governance—you'll advise product and engineering on AI regulation compliance, create and own data protection and AI terms in contracts, and develop the company's AI governance framework. The role is based in the London office with a hybrid setup (3 days per week in office expected). Success at 3 months means you own the legal function, complete a risk review of contracts and processes, establish a commercial agreement intake process, manage external counsel matters, and begin Series B preparation. At 6 months, the company contracts with clients through an improved process, legal intake is clear across all functions, and your legal associate works independently. REQUIREMENTS: - 10+ years qualified in any UK or EU jurisdiction, with private practice followed by in-house experience - Experience leading an in-house legal function, ideally as Head of Legal or General Counsel at a SaaS company, with ability to build from scratch - Deep commercial experience including IP and liability: MSAs, DPAs, order forms, negotiating with enterprise procurement and legal teams - Track record building legal process from scratch: templates, playbooks, intake, contract repository - Experience running external counsel across multiple jurisdictions and managing spend - Working knowledge of employment, equity, and corporate matters across multi-entity groups, with exposure to UK, US, and Belgium - Comfort making risk calls, closing imperfect contracts, and giving clear advice to non-lawyers and board-level readers - High agency, low ego, self-directing, startup-native mindset; genuine interest in AI tools NICE TO HAVE: - Fundraising experience on fund or company side - US legal experience - Data privacy (GDPR) and AI regulation experience (e.g., EU AI Act) - Cross-border data transfer experience between UK, EU, and US - Hands-on experience with contract lifecycle tools and AI-assisted contract review
