Fuse is building fusion energy technology to accelerate the world's transition to clean energy. As Head of Infrastructure, you will report directly to the CEO and own the complete capital development function for the company's facilities and projects. You will take full responsibility for permitting, contractor coordination, scheduling, budget management, and execution across current facility modifications, equipment installations, and future greenfield development. This includes managing Fuse's flagship facility completion, supporting machinery installations as new systems come online, and coordinating the ABQ radiation testing facility. Core responsibilities include: developing and executing permitting strategies while navigating complex state building, fire, zoning, and environmental codes; managing relationships with local planning departments, building departments, fire marshals, HazMat, and other regulatory bodies; coordinating with architects and engineers to evaluate designs and ensure regulatory compliance; managing multiple contractors simultaneously with clear expectations and accountability; creating and maintaining project schedules with critical path identification; and building and managing a capital projects team (permitting coordinators, construction admins, inspectors) as the portfolio scales. You will think operationally to find ways to move faster, work in parallel, and secure regulatory buy-in efficiently without unnecessary process overhead. You'll report directly to the CEO on all major capital initiatives, budget, timeline risks, and strategic decisions. Required qualifications include a demonstrated track record shipping large-scale first-of-a-kind capital projects at high-velocity companies; experience managing complex permitting in relevant jurisdictions with strong understanding of building codes, fire codes, zoning, and environmental regulations; proven ability managing multiple contractors and vendors simultaneously; solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems; comfort with ambiguity and changing scope; entrepreneurial mindset willing to challenge conventional approaches; and strong communication skills for explaining complex concepts to non-specialists and negotiating with agencies. Preferred qualifications include facilities management or capital development experience at growth-stage companies, experience managing $100M+ capital portfolios, exposure to fast-moving mission-driven companies, experience scaling facilities teams, and prior interaction with DOE, NRC, or similar federal regulators. This is an in-office position requiring relocation to San Leandro, CA if not already local. The role occasionally requires extended hours and weekends and may involve business travel to other Fuse facilities. ITAR compliance required: must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
