Fuse is building fusion energy technology at the intersection of national security and deep-tech hardware. As Head of Government Affairs, you will lead Fuse's Washington strategy and operations, reporting directly to leadership.
You will own the full government affairs function: designing and executing strategy across defense and energy appropriations cycles, moving federal funding into enacted language and appropriated dollars, and building durable relationships across Congress, the Pentagon, and relevant agencies. You'll represent Fuse before Members of Congress, committee staff, and senior executive branch officials, translating policy opportunities into business outcomes.
Core responsibilities include: designing and driving government affairs strategy aligned to company revenue targets; planning and executing campaigns across defense and energy authorizations and appropriations; representing Fuse to Congress and agencies; building relationships inside the Pentagon and DoE/NNSA; directing outside lobbyists and consultants; integrating with founders and business leadership on policy and funding opportunities; anticipating and shaping policy debates in pulsed power, radiation effects, nuclear deterrence, and fusion energy; hiring and developing the government affairs team as the company scales; and hosting high-level government facility visits.
You must have a recognized reputation on the Hill and in the building, with a track record of moving language into the NDAA, securing appropriations, or delivering comparable legislative outcomes. You need deep command of the federal budget cycle, how authorizations and appropriations interact, and timing across the full cycle. You must have served as a congressional staffer on defense appropriations, armed services, or energy & water committees AND worked inside a high-growth startup. You are a strategic operator who sees around corners, sets agendas, and drives outcomes. You are willing to travel on short notice and maintain the highest ethical standards.
This role requires U.S. Person status, eligibility for a security clearance, and may require lobbyist registration under the Lobbying Disclosure Act. ITAR compliance required. Relocation assistance provided. Not remote.
