Carmoola is a fast-growing fintech transforming car finance in the UK. Since launch, the company has raised over £540m from top-tier investors (including QED) and helped over 31,000 customers access car finance through a seamless, digital-first platform.
You will own Carmoola's fraud strategy and execution end-to-end. This is a high-impact, hands-on role combining strategic direction with technical delivery. You'll have significant autonomy from day one to define what AI-native fraud prevention means at Carmoola.
Key responsibilities:
- Own the fraud strategy across customer, document, dealer, and vehicle fraud. Decide what to build versus buy, balancing loss prevention against customer and dealer friction.
- Lead delivery across the business: own the fraud roadmap, shape requirements with Product and Engineering, align with Credit, Ops, and Collections, and drive ideas from conception to live impact.
- Design and develop AI agents that weigh evidence across application, document, bank, bureau, dealer, and vehicle data to flag suspicious cases and explain decisions.
- Build fraud classifiers, anomaly detection, document intelligence, and network analysis models to uncover linked applications, synthetic identities, and dealer collusion.
- Own production deployment end-to-end: version-controlled code, CI/CD, safe releases, live monitoring for drift and performance, with clear governance and human oversight.
- Conduct regular adversarial testing of your own controls using latest fraud techniques (deepfakes, synthetic documents, AI-generated identities, automated attacks) to identify and close weaknesses.
- Deliver fraud analytics and MI showing losses, prevention, and risk appetite reporting to senior leadership and the board.
- Build relationships with peer lenders, Cifas, National Hunter, the FLA, UK Finance, and law enforcement to spot emerging threats early and deploy new controls rapidly.
Requirements:
- Significant experience in fraud prevention or financial crime within UK consumer lending, ideally motor finance, point-of-sale, or fast-growth fintech.
- Hands-on data science: you have personally built fraud or risk models and deployed them to production (not just specified them). Expert in Python and SQL with strong machine learning grounding.
- Product and delivery mindset: you think like a product manager and data scientist combined. You define problems, prioritize ruthlessly, align cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Credit, Ops, Collections), and deliver outcomes, not just models.
- Practical experience building with LLMs and AI agents on real decisions (not demos), including evaluation, guardrails, and governance.
- Production engineering discipline: comfortable with Git, testing, CI/CD, cloud platforms, and model monitoring. You ship code you'd trust with live lending decisions.
- Well-connected in the UK fraud community. People know you and call you when new threats emerge.
- Commercial mindset: you understand friction has a cost, design controls proportionate to risk, and can explain trade-offs equally well to engineers and the board.
- Genuine excitement for Carmoola's mission and shaping the future of car finance.
