Assort Health is building AI agents that transform patient engagement in healthcare, moving from fragmented interactions to continuous, context-aware conversations. The company has grown from 15 people in 2025 to 250+ by end of 2026, with 20x revenue growth in 15 months and $222M raised at a $1.2B valuation. They operate the largest proprietary specialty dataset in healthcare: 240 million patient interactions, 62,000 care protocols, and 1.6 million decision pathways.
As Head of Forward Deployed Engineering, you will build and lead the Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) team, scaling it from a small group to 10+ engineers. This team owns technical implementation of AI agent deployments for the company's largest and most complex healthcare customers, including custom EHR integrations and workflow builds. You sit at the intersection of engineering, product, and customer success.
Key responsibilities include: scaling the FDE organization through hiring and team development; owning end-to-end technical delivery for strategic customers; partnering with cross-functional teams to translate customer needs into scalable solutions and influence product roadmap; establishing deployment patterns, best practices, and internal tooling; driving the field-to-product feedback loop to identify patterns that should become platform features; and being hands-on when needed—leading technical discovery, debugging production issues, and setting technical standards.
You'll need 5+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years leading customer-facing technical teams. A track record of scaling technical implementation or deployment teams in fast-growing B2B/enterprise software is essential. You must have strong technical fundamentals with hands-on ability to design, build, and debug production systems. You should excel at balancing customer needs, technical feasibility, and engineering velocity, knowing when to build custom solutions versus pushing for platform approaches. Experience building repeatable processes and tooling to scale implementation work is required. You must communicate exceptionally well with C-suite healthcare executives, technical teams, and internal stakeholders, and be willing to travel to customer sites for critical implementations.
