Highnote, founded in 2020 by leaders from Braintree, PayPal, and Lending Club, is a high-growth embedded finance platform that provides digital-first organizations with modern card platform management, payment processing, and ledger/wallet integration. With $145M+ in funding and 140+ employees across 25+ US states, the company is building one of the most advanced payments teams in the industry. As Head of Finance, you will report to the COO and partner closely with the CEO and leadership team to drive financial strategy and decision-making for this fast-moving fintech company. This is a leadership role focused on proactive financial analysis, strategic guidance, and operational excellence. Key responsibilities include: **Financial & Analytical Leadership**: Proactively analyze business performance, spot financial trends ahead of time, and recommend strategic moves. Own the financial narrative—what drives performance, what it means for the plan, and where risks/opportunities lie. Run scenario and sensitivity analyses so leadership can model the impact of major decisions, new products, and customer changes before execution. Partner with the CEO and COO to translate financial reality into clear, defensible guidance. **Planning & Reporting**: Guide annual operating plans and regular forecasting. Deliver clean, insightful reporting packages to leadership and the board that explain what happened, why, and recommended actions. Hold the overall view of revenue, gross profit, operating expense, and burn. **Capital, Burn & Treasury**: Manage burn and runway with clear judgment on where spend earns its keep. Own cash flow, treasury, and banking relationships. Support debt facilities and covenant compliance. Support equity and debt fundraising with models, diligence materials, and investor-ready analysis. **Controls & Audit**: Partner with the Controller on monthly close, tax, and internal controls. Stand behind financial positions with external auditors. Ensure GAAP compliance and audit readiness. **Strategic Initiatives**: Lead financial workstreams behind strategic and regulatory initiatives, including planning, projections, and capital considerations. **Finance Operations Transformation**: Own the finance technology stack (NetSuite and surrounding tools). Use automation and AI to transform forecasting, reporting, invoicing, and reconciliation. Elevate analysis quality while freeing the team for higher-value work, maintaining auditability and control. You will be a genuine forward-leaner on technology and AI, using it to produce sharper, faster, deeper insights. Payments is a business of fine margins and constant tradeoffs; you must understand those dynamics, see around corners, form clear points of view, and turn them into actionable recommendations.
