Charge Robotics is a Series A climate tech startup building robots that construct solar farms. The company addresses a critical labor bottleneck in solar installation—one-fifth of all US solar capacity was installed last year, yet construction companies lack the workforce to meet demand. Charge's robotic systems directly accelerate solar deployment and the world's renewable energy transition. The company is MIT-founded and backed by top-tier investors including Energy Impact Partners, Founders Fund, Lux Capital, and Y Combinator.
As Head of Finance, you will own the complete finance function and serve as a hands-on member of the leadership team reporting directly to the CEO. You will scale the finance organization as the company grows from current deployment to Series B and a dedicated manufacturing facility in early 2027.
Key responsibilities include:
**Capital Raising (Equity):** Partner with the CEO to run fundraises end-to-end—financial modeling, dataroom preparation, investor pipeline management, diligence, term-sheet negotiation, closing, and cap table/409A administration.
**Capital Raising (Debt & Equipment Finance):** Source, negotiate, and manage equipment financing facilities (equipment lease and asset-backed lending), prepare asset schedules, track collateral and covenants, and ensure timely lender payments.
**FP&A:** Own and iterate the financial model to forecast runway, burn, headcount, per-system unit economics, and project pricing. Translate forecasts into board decks, investor updates, and actionable leadership decisions.
**Treasury & Banking:** Manage daily cash flow, short-term cash forecasting, banking relationships, corporate card programs (Ramp), and employee expense policies.
**Accounting & AP:** Own accounts payable, approvals, and month-end close. Maintain clean general ledger in QuickBooks with proper project and COGS coding. Ensure audit-readiness and manage the PO-to-payment workflow with the purchasing system, supported by external bookkeeper and internal Supply Chain team.
**Tax & Compliance:** Manage federal and state tax filings, R&D tax credit studies and monetization, 1099 administration, multi-state sales/use and gross-receipts tax posture, exemption certificates, and import/customs compliance.
**Corporate & Facilities:** Manage HQ lease, key vendor and provider relationships (bookkeeping, tax, legal, insurance), and plan for future expansion.
**Team Building:** Build an exceptional finance team to scale the function as the company grows.
**Requirements:**
- 8+ years in finance, including time as senior finance lead at a venture-backed startup (Series A–C)
- Experience raising capital on both sides of the balance sheet: equity and debt, ideally including equipment lease and/or ABL facilities
- Ability to build and own complex three-statement financial models that leadership and investors rely on for key analyses
- Comfort owning operational areas beyond core finance (insurance, tax, payroll, procurement) and building robust processes from the ground up
- Fluency in accounting and close (GAAP, AP, accruals, audit-readiness) and ability to manage outsourced bookkeepers and tax advisors
- Genuinely hands-on approach: building models, chasing invoices, and negotiating term sheets yourself
- Clear and direct communication with founders, board, investors, lenders, and customers
- Based in or able to relocate to SF Bay Area; able to work in-person at San Leandro HQ
- Genuine excitement about seeing robots deployed on actual solar construction sites globally
**Nice-to-Have:**
- Equipment, project, or infrastructure finance experience (sale-leasebacks, asset-backed lending, CapEx-heavy businesses)
- Background in hardware, robotics, manufacturing, energy, or construction
- Experience taking a company through Series B or first financial audit
- Experience deploying equity capital or lending to early-stage, CapEx-heavy businesses (investment banking, private equity, venture, private credit)
- International contracts or entities experience
- Experience hiring and managing a small Finance or Operations team
