The Platform Engineering team builds infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, developer tooling, and internal platforms to enable Tide's engineers to ship safely and quickly. As Head of Developer Experience, you will report to the Director of Platform Engineering and own the developer experience strategy across the entire engineering organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and executing the Developer Experience strategy, vision, and roadmap for developer tooling, CI/CD, and internal platforms
- Leading the design and continuous improvement of CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling to reduce friction and lead time in the software delivery lifecycle
- Defining, tracking, and reporting on DevEx metrics (DORA, SPACE) to identify bottlenecks and prioritize investment
- Owning and evolving Tide's Backstage service catalogue as the single source of truth for the ICT Asset Register
- Managing the Developer Productivity function, including building and maintaining Java/Spring and Python paved-road templates
- Owning internally developed libraries for authentication and common functionality, ensuring documentation and adoption
- Building, leading, and mentoring a team of platform, developer experience, and developer productivity engineers
- Preparing Tide's engineering platform for agentic development, ensuring tooling and guardrails support AI coding agents safely
- Defining the platform, tooling, and operating model for running AI-developed applications in production
- Partnering with engineering leaders, security, and compliance stakeholders to identify friction points and shape the platform roadmap
Ideal candidates will have proven experience leading Developer Experience, Platform Engineering, or DevOps/SRE teams at scale; hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling in modern cloud environments; experience with Backstage or comparable internal developer portals; experience running developer productivity or paved-road functions; familiarity with engineering productivity frameworks (DORA, SPACE); knowledge of agentic and AI-assisted development tools; and strong people leadership skills with a track record of building high-performing engineering teams.
