BitGo (NYSE: BTGO) is a digital asset infrastructure company providing custody, wallets, staking, trading, financing, stablecoins, and settlement services. The company operates as a regulated trust bank and serves thousands of institutions, exchanges, and millions of investors globally. You will lead BitGo's design function as a player-coach: managing and mentoring the design team while maintaining hands-on design work (approximately 50% IC work initially, decreasing as the team scales). You will own the design system, sit alongside the Chief Product Officer on business strategy, and drive the company's transformation into a design-led organization. Key responsibilities include: - Shipping your own design work across retail mobile and core product surfaces, setting the craft standard for the team - Managing and developing individual designers, providing candid feedback grounded in craft and establishing clear paths to the next level - Building and owning the design system end-to-end: tokens, patterns, governance, component library, and adoption across product teams - Establishing design's strategic voice in roadmap, architecture, and business conversations; joining product and engineering at discovery, not handoff - Designing systems, not screens—translating shared primitives (accounts, wallets, assets, entitlements, approvals) into coherent platform experiences across seven product areas - Embedding UX and systems thinking across the organization so product managers, engineers, and business leads frame problems in client terms and evaluate solutions against real needs - Establishing processes for a small, fast-moving team: critique, documentation, design review, clean handoffs, and quality standards including AI-assisted work - Reading technical designs, understanding constraints, and deciding with engineering where to compromise, hold, or invest in broader changes - Representing design internally and externally with clients, partners, and candidates Success metrics: By six months, the design system has a clear owner, versioned component library, and measurable adoption; you have shipped design work setting the team standard; every designer knows their next level. By 12 months, design is in strategy conversations early; product and engineering partners frame problems in client terms; the team has grown in size and capability; at least one flagship surface has shipped with a coherent, systemized experience. The design team is small, senior, and self-sufficient. Each designer owns a vertical (trading, staking, DeFi vaults, earn, wallets, financing) with deep product context. They are at capacity, so you will pick up retail mobile and design system work rather than distributing across an already-full team. They are seeking a leader who engages early with product and engineering, critiques craft because they practice it, communicates plainly about next-level requirements, and provides air cover for deep work. Requirements: - Experience leading design in financial services; digital assets or another domain with genuinely complex technical flows strongly preferred - Built and owned a design system at scale, not just used one - Hands-on in Figma and a role model for craft; shipping design work today, not describing work from four years ago; able to give specific, actionable feedback in critique - Deep UX expertise with strong product thinking, logical reasoning, and decisions grounded in data rather than taste - Proven track record managing designers and making them better; invested in team growth and outcomes - Technically literate; comfortable with APIs, data models, and engineering trade-offs - Direct communicator who can hold a position with a CPO, engineering lead, or client, and change their mind when the argument is better - Motivated by the mandate to transform a technical, compliance-heavy platform into a design-led one Helpful but not required: - Experience in regulated environments (broker-dealer, trust company, bank, qualified custodian) - Experience with complex permissioning, approval workflows, or multi-entity account structures - Design leadership at a company that underwent a similar design-led transformation
