Impulse Space is seeking a Harness Design Engineer to design and own electrical interconnect systems for high-performance space vehicles. You will lead development from early concept through production and integration, serving as the primary subject matter expert for harness-related design decisions across multiple engineering programs. Key responsibilities include: - Design, develop, and implement electrical harness architectures for space vehicles, translating system-level requirements into detailed designs that meet functional, environmental, and reliability constraints - Evaluate and specify components including wiring, connectors, shielding approaches, cable constructions, and associated hardware for demanding space environments - Create and release comprehensive documentation packages including interconnect schematics, system block diagrams, and production drawings - Lead design reviews, proactively identifying risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities - Develop assembly instructions and verification procedures aligned with industry standards - Partner with cross-functional teams (mechanical, software, electrical, product, compliance) to define electrical requirements and ensure alignment - Support rapid development cycles including prototyping, deployment, and continuous improvement - Manage contributions across multiple programs simultaneously, balancing priorities across different development phases Required qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience) - Minimum 3 years designing wiring and interconnect systems for harsh-environment applications (aerospace, defense, or industrial) - Demonstrated ownership of full interconnect system design including grounding, signal performance, power distribution, and shielding - Proficiency with wiring diagrams and interconnect documentation - Experience optimizing designs for manufacturability, mass efficiency, and system performance - Ability to conduct trade studies on connector selection, conductor sizing, wiring topology, and shielding - Strong understanding of electrical failure modes and mitigation techniques (interference, voltage drop, thermal effects, crosstalk) - Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards for formboards and production documentation - Ability to ensure compliance with system-level electrical constraints (current capacity, voltage limits, redundancy, bandwidth, EMI/EMC)
