Heron Power is building next-generation power electronics for grid modernization, focusing on scalable converters (inverters and rectifiers) to connect large-scale renewables, storage, and loads. The company is led by veterans with a decade of experience shipping gigawatts of power conversion products. As Hardware Validation Systems Developer, you will architect and deliver the automated test infrastructure that enables Heron to validate and manufacture at scale. Your scope spans PCBA-level functional testing through subsystem validation, end-of-line system testing, and high-volume manufacturing test systems for both low-voltage electronics and high-power converter assemblies. You will own the complete lifecycle: defining test requirements and coverage strategy, architecting test solutions, designing fixtures and benches, developing automation software, deploying systems, and driving continuous improvement. Key responsibilities include: • Test Strategy & Architecture: Define functional test coverage across PCBA, subsystem, and full-system levels. Partner with design engineering on Design-for-Test (DFT) practices including test points, boundary scan, firmware testing, and observability. Establish pass/fail criteria grounded in real system performance and reliability goals. • High-Power Converter Testers: Design and deliver automated bi-directional AC/DC and DC/DC converter testers capable of source and sink operation. Architect high-power test cells including bidirectional sources, regenerative loads, grid simulators, HV measurement chains, contactors, protection systems, interlocks, and safe operating procedures. • Test Hardware & Fixtures: Design PCBA functional fixtures (bed-of-nails, pogo, interface boards), harness validation fixtures, subsystem and system-level interface racks, and fault-injection rigs. Specify and integrate instrumentation (power supplies, electronic loads, DAQs, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, CAN/Ethernet/RS-485 tools, sensors). • Debug & Yield: Drive rapid debug loops when tests fail, improve test observability and diagnostic resolution, own station version control and calibration, and partner with manufacturing to improve yield and reduce escapes. You will build this capability from the ground up with real breadth across functional testing, engineering validation, high-power HIL, end-of-line testing, and production. The role offers high agency and direct ownership of high-voltage, high-energy automated test systems that determine iteration and shipping speed.
