Lab37 Robotics is developing robotic solutions for direct-to-customer food production, aiming to revolutionize the food industry through innovative automation. As a Hardware Test & Validation Engineer, you will design, execute, and automate comprehensive tests that validate robotic systems against NSF food safety requirements and real-world kitchen durability standards.
Your core responsibilities include translating food safety regulations and operational best practices into testable specifications and detailed test protocols. You'll design and build custom test fixtures and rigs using Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or similar platforms to instrument systems with temperature, humidity, and environmental sensors for automated data logging and analysis.
You will execute a wide range of validation tests including environmental, thermal, humidity, ingress protection, cleaning/chemical exposure, wear/abrasion, and lifecycle/MTBF testing. This involves running component and subsystem endurance tests on motors, augers, valves, seals, and electronics to characterize failure modes and recommend design or supplier improvements. You'll analyze test results, document findings, and publish comprehensive test reports.
Collaboration is central to the role—you'll partner closely with engineering teams and supply chain to resolve issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and drive design improvements that elevate product quality and customer experience. You'll also maintain lab safety standards, manage calibration schedules, and oversee test asset management.
The ideal candidate has 3+ years of hands-on hardware validation or test engineering experience with proven fixture-building and lab skills. You should be comfortable with Raspberry Pi/Arduino integration, sensor work (temperature/humidity), and designing/executing environmental and lifecycle tests. This is a full-time, onsite role based in Pittsburgh with a five-day-per-week office presence.
