Salary: USD 127,000 - 148,000 / annual

Muon Space is seeking an early-career Hardware Test Engineer to join the Testbeds & EGSE team, which designs and builds Hardware-In-The-Loop (HITL) testbeds and electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) for satellite missions. This role sits at the intersection of electrical, embedded software, mechanical, and controls engineering disciplines. Key responsibilities include building, integrating, and bringing up HITL testbed hardware (racks, avionics modules, harnessing, external interfaces) for each mission; assisting in the design of testbed hardware and next-generation EGSE used to power, command, and monitor satellites during integration and test; translating flight hardware designs (block diagrams, schematics, drawings) into testbed configurations in collaboration with the electrical missions team; debugging hardware and interface issues across testbeds alongside electrical, software, and systems engineers; maintaining testbed support infrastructure (power, network, lab resources); creating and maintaining documentation (architecture diagrams, build records, checkout procedures); and coordinating with supply chain and production teams on testbed inventory and module builds. Required qualifications include 2+ years of hands-on experience building, testing, or debugging hardware in complex electromechanical systems (internships and substantial project work considered); background in electrical engineering, embedded software, mechanical engineering, or industrial controls; hands-on hardware skills including assembly, wiring, and basic troubleshooting with multimeters and oscilloscopes; understanding of electronics fundamentals and common communication interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet); basic scripting or programming ability in Python or Bash; strong problem-solving skills and hands-on approach; excellent communication and teamwork; B.S. in an engineering discipline or equivalent hands-on experience; and comfort in a Linux-heavy development environment. Nice-to-have skills include experience with HITL testbeds, test labs, or lab automation; harness design/assembly experience or familiarity with electrical CAD (Altium) or mechanical CAD (SolidWorks); PCBA assembly and rework experience; experience with industrial automation or rack-based electronics and networking; and aerospace or other high-reliability industry experience. The role requires onsite work at the San Jose location 5 days per week due to its hands-on nature.
